PlayerIO (formerly Player.IO and Yahoo Games Network) is a multiplayer games platform created in 2009 by Chris Benjaminsen and Oliver Pedersen.[1] It offers various services for multiplayer game developers, including file hosting and versioning, databases (BigDB), player accounts (PlayerObjects), and payment processing (PayVault), among others.[2]

PlayerIO's parent company, PlayerScale, was acquired by Yahoo in 2013,[3] and the service was briefly rebranded, using the Yahoo Games Network label.[4] It would rebrand again, using the name PlayerIO after being acquired by The Games Platform Company in 2016.[5]

Everybody Edits

Everybody Edits was created with the intent of being a sample game showcasing the persistent multiplayer capabilities of PlayerIO.[6] It used many of PlayerIO's features.
