An example of a loading screen.

Loading screens, commonly known as loadscreens and internally as titlescreens[1], were images that appeared while loading into the Lobby. They could be seen when first opening the game, or getting disconnected from a world.

Appearance

Loading screens traditionally consist of gameplay screenshots, featuring new or thematic content, and the Everybody Edits logo. Edits are often made to enhance the overall appearance (e.g. adding a vignette, more Smileys, or a glow effect to blocks).

As a running gag, the loading screen usually altered in appearance for April Fools in addition to game content.

Prior to early 2011, the logo was created entirely out of blocks. The logo was updated in August 2018, for use in higher resolutions. For seasonal updates, the logo was updated to reflect the current holiday or season.

Contest

In 2015, a Loading Screen Contest was held, running from March 1 to March 10.[2] The winning team's world was made the official loading screen in mid March of 2015.[3]
