Blocks are a category of foreground tile in Everybody Edits. Nearly all blocks are solid, and have no animations or interactivity. Some blocks have directional collision, and some are half-blocks.

In many cases, block is used interchangeably with tile. However, the edit tab has Blocks as a distinct category from Action, Decorative, and Backgrounds.

Functionality

Blocks act as solid platforms. They stop a smiley's movement, and when a block is stood on, a smiley can jump off of it. Standing on a block also restores any extra jumps from the Double Jump Effect.

Most blocks show up on the minimap; however, some blocks included in the Industrial, Medieval, and Jungle packs, as well as some of the one-way blocks do not.

The Secret Package has the only interactive blocks, and the only non-solid block in the game. The second and third Secret blocks appear or vanish respectively to players who have touched it, are in God Mode, or have used the /show secrets command. The fourth block is only visible in God Mode. These interactions are only cosmetic, and do not affect other players. Otherwise, the vanishing block acts as empty space, and the rest act as fully solid blocks.

History

Blocks were added around the start of the game. The oldest known screenshot includes blocks from the Bricks and Generic packages, along with a red circular avatar that predates smileys.[1]

The Blocks tab was added as a category separate from Action, Decorative, and Backgrounds packages in 2011. Prior to this, the edit menu made no distinction between different types of tiles.[2]

After the Shop was implemented, many blocks added to the game were only available through it. Later, some Campaigns also rewarded block packages. Other method of obtaining blocks were Beta, Gold Membership, and magic. In Everybody Edits Offline, all blocks are immediately available.

One-way blocks were introduced with the Candyland Package in 2011. Half-blocks and rotatable one-way blocks were implemented in 2015.
